Coledale Horseshoe *Postponed*

It is with regret that due to the concerns over Coronavirus/Covid-19, the Coledale Horseshoe due to be held on 28th March will be postponed until 24th October 2020. This decision has not been taken lightly but with the potential for the situation to get much worse in 2 weeks time, I have acted quickly to secure a date to ensure the race takes place later in the year. I hope people understand & accept the reasons for this difficult decision but 400+ people in close proximity at registration/start etc, the potential for spreading the virus is too great. Fell runners by their very nature are a fit & hardy bunch but possibly taking the virus home to family members, particularly […]

Xmas Run 2019 – Ennerdale Skyline

Friday 27th December, the Elbra Xmas Party/AGM/Run. Our annual Christmas run. Most, if not all, of the club members look forward to it all year. This year was no different with our biggest turnout yet. The route was the Ennerdale Skyline, approx 24mile and 10,000ft of ascent, slightly shorter than previous years, we must be going soft. The Ennerdale Skyline route hits all the tops over looking the Ennerdale valley. As we set off the weather was rather good for the time of year. We had a brief view of red sky from the rising sun while at the summit of Great Borne, that really was the last of any good views we had. As we carried on towards Red […]

Dava’s Bob Graham Round

21:00. April 12, 2019. 66 mile, 27,000 ft of ascent, 42 of the highest peaks in the Lake District. Yes, this is the Bob Graham Round. Many Ellenborough AC runners have completed the feat, and now we have another member to join the club. Dava Williams completed his round over the weekend in a brilliant time of 21:48. In the weeks leading up to the attempt, everyone was checking the dreaded weather forecast. Ellenborough seem to have a nasty habit of attracting only the worst that mother nature can throw at them. However on this occasion, the forecast was for perfectly clear sunny skies. Not one member was jealous of this šŸ˜œ. Some even hinting that it wouldn’t count as […]

Xmas Run 2018 – Eskdale Watershed

Last year on our Xmas Run Ricky uttered the wordsĀ ā€œIā€™ve never been so relieved to get off a ……. hillside!ā€ This year wasn’t quite so bad, however, as we stood ankle deep in bog, words similar to the above were starting to creep in. At this point the rain had been driving down on us for the last 4 hours, as we waded through heavy bogs, tussocks and rivers. The wind picked up on the higher ground and with it, our body temperatures dropped. So our planned route,Ā The Eskdale Watershed (as we named it), was wisely shortened to not take in the higher ground. Originally we would have made our way from Ravenglass up to Bowfell, Esk Pike, Scafell Pike […]

Alex’ Bob Graham Round

Friday 17th August. 22:00. Ellenborough’s Alex Roberts set off on an attempt of the Bob Graham Round. After a summer of glorious weather and few date push-backs, the decision was made to finally go ahead and give it a go this weekend. That was despite a pretty damp weather forecast. Leg 1 proved the previous statement was a bit of an understatement, with strong winds & rain on the summit of Skiddaw. The fun didn’t stop though, on Blencathra the clag and driving rain made visibility down to only a couple of feet. After a few circles trying to find the actual summit the descent was made. Taking the decision to drop down via Doddick Fell rather than Halls Fell […]
