Dava’s Bob Graham Round

21:00. April 12, 2019. 66 mile, 27,000 ft of ascent, 42 of the highest peaks in the Lake District. Yes, this is the Bob Graham Round. Many Ellenborough AC runners have completed the feat, and now we have another member to join the club. Dava Williams completed his round over the weekend in a brilliant time of 21:48. In the weeks leading up to the attempt, everyone was checking the dreaded weather forecast. Ellenborough seem to have a nasty habit of attracting only the worst that mother nature can throw at them. However on this occasion, the forecast was for perfectly clear sunny skies. Not one member was jealous of this 😜. Some even hinting that it wouldn’t count as […]

Xmas Run 2018 – Eskdale Watershed

Last year on our Xmas Run Ricky uttered the words “I’ve never been so relieved to get off a ……. hillside!” This year wasn’t quite so bad, however, as we stood ankle deep in bog, words similar to the above were starting to creep in. At this point the rain had been driving down on us for the last 4 hours, as we waded through heavy bogs, tussocks and rivers. The wind picked up on the higher ground and with it, our body temperatures dropped. So our planned route, The Eskdale Watershed (as we named it), was wisely shortened to not take in the higher ground. Originally we would have made our way from Ravenglass up to Bowfell, Esk Pike, Scafell Pike […]

Alex’ Bob Graham Round

Friday 17th August. 22:00. Ellenborough’s Alex Roberts set off on an attempt of the Bob Graham Round. After a summer of glorious weather and few date push-backs, the decision was made to finally go ahead and give it a go this weekend. That was despite a pretty damp weather forecast. Leg 1 proved the previous statement was a bit of an understatement, with strong winds & rain on the summit of Skiddaw. The fun didn’t stop though, on Blencathra the clag and driving rain made visibility down to only a couple of feet. After a few circles trying to find the actual summit the descent was made. Taking the decision to drop down via Doddick Fell rather than Halls Fell […]

Xmas Run 2017 – 4 x 3,000ft

Author: Ricky Lightfoot  “I’ve never been so relieved to get off a ……. hillside!” The only other time I’ve uttered those words was during my winter Bob Graham Round in January 2015, but the latest outing was a bit shorter lived as I walked in to the Sweeny Bar just off the A591 near Swirls, soaked through with five other blokes. A few months previous to the 29th December we, some members of my local club Ellenbourgh AC had agreed an a location for our annual “Christmas Doo”. We decided on the Lakes 3000’s, a classic loop of the 4 mountains in the Lake District which stand above 3000ft, it’s also an annual event for the LDWA, in summer I might […]
