Ravenstonedale 10K

Ravenstonedale 10K Road Race. 24/11/2012

Three Elbra lads turned out for this 10K race at Ravenstonedale. Head south on the M6, turn left at Tebay, go towards Kirkby Stephen for 6 miles and you come to a lovely little village that looks a little more Yorkshire than Cumbria. It has to be said, the people there were as warm and welcoming as you’ll find anywhere. The race was a two lap affair that took you through the village at the start, in the middle and to the finish. This made it a good spectator event. The course was tarmack(ish) country roads that were almost B roads at times. The good thing was, there was hardly any traffic. The race was won by our very own Ricky Lightfoot sporting a smart Elbra vest; much better than that Solomon stuff he wears a lot. Ricky won the race ahead of Carl Bell of Howgill Harriers, it was a Howgill organised race. In doing so, Ricky set a new course record of 32:32, almost the same time as his Elbra 10K time, showing you how tough the course was. The other two Elbra runners were some way behind Ricky, but never the less managed to win their respective age categories. Barry Hodgson picked up the V55 prize and Jackie Winn the V60. 100% result for Elbra.

With the tea, coffee and cake to die for, Mmmmm! Soup and a roll at the finish, time enough for a quick pint while waiting for the results, It was all in all a very good day out!
