Grisedale Horseshoe 2012

The Grisedale Horseshoe Fell Race is run from Glenridding in Patterdale. It is 16Km long and 1525m of accent. Seven Ellenborough runners and one CFR from a party of ten ran this classic fell race on Saturday 1st September followed by a few pints in the afternoon sunshine (yes, summer made a guest appearance) and an evening meal in the Travellers Rest, finishing with B&B in the Greenside YH.

Fortunately there was a stiff westerly breeze on the tops, making running a bit more comfortable. The race was won by our own Ricky Lightfoot, beating his Salomon team mate Rob Hope of Pudsey and Bramley into second place and the class Ben Bardsley of Borrowdale FR into third. The oldgadgy got the V60 prize with his best run thus far this year, adding another nice mug to his collection. The V50 mug went to Chris Knowles of CFR who was in our party for the weekend (don’t tell Harry).

Finishing names and positions were:- Ricky Lightfoot; winner, Dr.Richard MᶜGrath; 11th, Nick Ray; 22nd, Chris Knowles (CFR); 23rd, Jackie winn; 26th, Scott Keogh; 34th, Peter Kemp; 45th and Andrew Turner.

The afore mentioned Chris Knowles left the company early on Sunday morning to head down to Lorton to organise the Loweswater Show Fell Race. Amazingly, three of the Guys who ran Grisedale found the strength to run this too. Dr MᶜGrath showed he has big stones by finishing third, Scott came in 9th and Nick (poker legs) Ray  came in 10th. A good weekend was had by all!
