North East Counties Indoor T&F 2013

Ellenborough AC has three new County Champions,  Charlotte Orton, Holly Adams and Thomas Adams.

The trio all competed in the North East Counties Indoor Track & Field Championships in Gateshead at the weekend. This incorporated the Cumbria County indoor Championship, and all three athletes came home successful.

Thomas at U13 level logged three new personal best performances in Shot, Long Jump and in the 60m sprint. Holly stepped up to the U15 age group this year and she is off to a flying start, setting new PB’s in Shot which she won outright,  and she finished second behind Annalise James of Gateshead Harriers in the 60m Hurdles. But she was the first Cumbrian home so she is the County Champion. Charlotte has just stepped up to the U17 group and despite being 14 years old until next July she finished an impressive second overall behind Hollie Lancaster of Sunderland Athletic Club. However, she was the 1st from Cumbria and collected the Gold medal. Charlotte did well to compete as she was suffering a slight knee strain which she picked up on Saturday at WIGAN, where she represented Cumbria in the North West County Sportshall Athletics match.

These three young people are amongst a larger group of Ellenborough Athletes who have benefited from a winter training program at Cockermouth Leisure Centre. They were offered a good deal on a 7 month membership package by manager Alan Qualye, and have enjoyed the use of all of the facilities there since October.  As well as this, they train at Netherhall Sports Centre on Mondays. They have built themselves a sound performance base for the coming season. This was the first competition of the year for Holly and Thomas, but Charlotte finished a creditable 11th out of 30 in the 60m and 200m sprints at the Birmingham Games two weeks ago, where she rubbed shoulders with some of the country’s finest young athletes.
