Ellenborough AC was started in 1958 by Raymond & Mary Thompson. Many young people from Maryport and the surrounding areas of West Cumbria have enjoyed wearing the royal blue and gold kit. If you are looking for an athletics club in West Cumbria give us a call.

The club strives to provide a high quality, safe and welcoming environment and is a member of Sport England CLUBMARK.

Clubmark is the only national cross sports quality accreditation scheme for clubs with junior sections. It is built around a set of core criteria which ensure that accredited clubs operate to a set of consistent, accepted and adopted minimum operating standards.  Sport England recognises and values the commitment made by sports clubs to develop high quality, welcoming environments for young participants. The development of clubs that encourage young people to take-up sport, improve their talents and give them the option to initiate and maintain life-long participation in sport is an essential part of our work to support the sporting infrastructure in England.

In 2009 a senior Men’s team was put together and introduced Ellenborough AC to the fell running fraternity. In it’s first year competed in the Hodgson Brother Mountain Relay (HBMR). On this occasion we finished 32nd out of the 66 teams. Not bad for a team of eight, three of whom were over 50 years old. We have been going ever since. Still only a small group, but always very competitive.

Unfortunately in 2017, with the loss of coaches and low numbers, our Junior section became no more. We hope one day that we can revive this area and once again have many juniors taking part in keeping healthy and fit through athletics.
